U.S. Team, Athletes Win Gold At Inaugural Nautique IWWF World Wakesurf Championships

The U.S. Wakesurf Team won the overall team gold medal and five U.S. athletes won titles in respective divisions at the inaugural Nautique IWWF World Wakesurf Championships, Nov. 5-9, at Tai Po Waterfront Park in Hong Kong, China.


The 2024 Nautique IWWF World Wakesurf Championships was hosted by the Hong Kong, China Waterski Association (HKCWA) and included individual age-group categories and a team overall category. There was a $30,000 (U.S.) cash purse for the Open Men and Women skim and surf categories.


The United States tallied 780.00 points in winning the overall team gold medal over Hong Kong (740.00 points) and Ukraine (510.00 points). Twenty federations participated in the tournament.


U.S. athletes winning gold medals were: Nicole Hudson (Montgomery, Texas), Veteran Women Wake Skim (80.00 points); Jett Lambert (Clermont, Fla.), U18 Men Wake Surf (70.00 points) and U18 Men Wake Skim (85.00 points); Tyler Stewart (Victoria, Minn.), Open Men Wake Skim (83.33 points) and Wake Surf (78.33 points); Whitley Stewart (Cartersville, Ga.), Open Women Wake Skim (80.00 points); and Sean Silveira (Clermont, Fla.), Masters Men Wake Skim (82.83 points).


Sawyer Brandstad (Nevada City, Calif.) earned the silver in Grom/U14 Boys Wake Surf (65.00 points) and placed sixth in Grom/U14 Boys Wake Skim, and Ava Stewart (Victoria, Minn.) earned the bronze medal in Open Women Wake Skim (45.00 points). CJ Koenig (Carmel, Ind.) placed sixth in Open Men Wake Skim (68.17 points).





The International World Games Association (IWGA) announced earlier this year that wakesurfing would be included in the 2025 World Games to be held in Chengdu, China, and the 2024 Nautique IWWF World Wakesurf Championships was a classification event to select the athletes.
