Coaches Development Program
USA Water Ski & Wake Sports provides training and certification for aspiring instructors and coaches to teach students the necessary skills to safely and successfully participate in the various USA Water Ski & Wake Sports sport disciplines.
In an effort to ensure USA Water Ski & Wake Sports certified instructors and coaches are well versed in the importance of the health and safety of all students, especially minors, USA Water Ski & Wake Sports requires all instructors and coaches to submit to and pass Background Screening and SafeSport Training. Please see below for more information on the three components required to attain Level 1 Instructor certification.
Coaches Development Program#
- current USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Active member (does not include GrassRoots or Guest members)age 18 or above
- age 18 or abovevalid social security number
- valid social security number
Note: Foreign instructors/coaches and those under the age of 18 are not eligible for this program.
- Log into your Members-Only page on USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Web Site using your membership number and password
- Select Background Screening from the menu
- Follow the applicable instructions to complete your application, acknowledge disqualification criteria and purchase the screening
- USA Water Ski & Wake Sports will notify you via email of your pass/fail status
- Log into your Members-Only page on USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Web Site using your membership number and password
- Select SafeSport Certification from the menu
- Follow the applicable instructions to complete the training
- You must use Google Chrome to access the SafeSport Training
- Email your certificate of completion to compliance@usawaterski.org
Level 1 introduces beginning teaching techniques for introducing two-ski, one-ski and tricks skiing; teaching methods for beginning wakeboard, kneeboard and barefoot skills, plus a section on water toys. Upon completion of the training, you will be required to answer a series of multiple choice questions based on each chapter of the Level 1 course.
- Log into your Members-Only page on the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports website using your membership number and password
- Select Instructor/Coach Programs from the menu
- Follow the applicable instructions to purchase and complete the training
Upon successful completion of all three of the above components, USA Water Ski & Wake Sports will issue your Level 1 Instructor certification and send an email confirmation of same. You will then be able to log into the Members-Only section of our website and print your officials qualification card.
In order to maintain a Level 1 Instructor/Coach rating, an individual must maintain:
- USA-WSWS Active membership (does not include GrassRoots or Guest members).
- Background Screening (once every two years)
- SafeSport certification (annually)
USA Water Ski & Wake Sports will notify you via e-mail when your Background Screening and/or SafeSport Certification is due for renewal.
USA Water Ski & Wake Sports offers certified instructors/coaches who have completed the required Criminal Background Screening and SafeSport Training the option of participating in our Coaches Liability Insurance Program. This program provides General Liability and Professional Liability coverage to USA Water Ski & Wake Sports certified instructors/coaches.
