Four U.S. Teams Earn Medals At Pan Am Championships

Brittany Greenwood (Little Rock, Ark.) earned bronze medals in women's jumping and overall for the U.S. Elite Team.

Four U.S water ski teams – Elite, U21, U17 and U14 – competing in the 2021 IWWF Pan American Water Ski Championships earned team medals at the biennial event, Nov. 4-7, at Boca Laguna in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. Athletes on the four U.S. teams combined to earn 29 individual medals, including five gold medals.

The U.S. Elite Water Ski earned the overall team silver medal, scoring 6.981.94 points. Canada won the gold (8,279.95 points) and Chile earned the bronze (5,622.91 points) in the six-team field.

Members of the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team were: Brian Detrick (Elk Grove, Calif.)Brittany Greenwood (Little Rock, Ark.)Blaze Grubbs (Rio Linda, Calif.)Erick Macias (Winter Garden, Fla.)Lauren Morgan (St. Louis, Mo.) and Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.). Morgan won the gold medal in women’s jumping (170 feet); Smith won the gold medal in men’s slalom (3-1/4 buoys at 41 feet off); Detrick earned the silver medal in men’s slalom (3 buoys at 41 feet off); Greenwood earned bronze medals in women’s jumping (164 feet) and overall (2,106.06 points); and Grubbs earned the bronze medal in men’s overall (2,414.17 points).

The U.S. Under 21 Water Ski Team earned the overall team bronze medal. scoring 4,073.81 points. Canada won the gold (6,554.98 points) and Chile earned the silver (5,743.84 points) in the six-team field.

Members of the U.S. Under 21 Water Ski Team were: Paul Wesley Cory (Sacramento, Calif.)Robert Powell (Lorton, Va.) and Connor Walsh (Lakeland, Fla.). Walsh earned the silver medal in men’s overall (1,788.42 points) and bronze medals in slalom (4 buoys at 32 feet off) and jumping (122 feet); and Cory earned the bronze medal in men’s overall (1,587.30 points).

The U.S. Under 17 Water Ski Team won the overall team gold medal, scoring 7,907.21 points. Chile earned the silver (7,876.99 points) and Canada earned the bronze (7,521.58 points) in the five-team field.

Members of the U.S. Under 17 Water Ski Team were: Will Blair (Mooresville, N.C.)Alyssa Drake (Oconomowoc, Wis.)Allyson Grathwohl (Martindale, Texas)Blaze Grubbs (Rio Linda, Calif.)Kendra Nathan (Canyon Lake, Calif.) and Carter Reese (Walnut Creek, Calif.). Drake won gold medals in girls’ jumping (127 feet) and overall (2,951.61 points); Grathwohl earned the silver medal in girls’ tricks (5,630 points) and the bronze in jumping (102 feet); Grubbs earned silver medals in boys’ tricks (8,630 points) and overall (2,759.32 points) and the bronze in jumping (157 feet); and Nathan earned bronze medals in girls’ slalom (5 buoys at 32 feet off) and overall (2,348.69 points).

The U.S. Under 14 Water Ski Team earned the overall team silver medal, scoring 7,009.64 points. Canada won the gold (7,233.02 points) and Colombia earned the bronze (5,777.07 points) in the seven-team field.

Members of the U.S. Under 14 Water Ski Team were: Wesley Blair (Mooresville, N.C.)Cameron Davis (Milford, Va.)Emma Davis (Milford, Va.)Jaeden Eade (Clermont, Fla.)Gage Kacprowicz (San Antonio, Texas) and Julie Mishler (Milford, Ind.). Emma Davis earned silver medals in girls’ tricks (3,950 points) and overall (2,656.36 points) and the bronze in jumping (74 feet); Cameron Davis earned the bronze medal in girls’ overall (2,271.85 points); Eade won the gold medal in boys’ slalom (4-1/2 buoys at 38 feet off) and earned silver medals in jumping (111 feet) and overall (2,648.48 points); Mishler earned the silver medal in girls’ slalom (3 buoys at 35 feet off); and Blair earned bronze medals in boys’ tricks (3,640 points) and jumping (108 feet).
