PRELIMINARY NOTICE TO THE ATHLETE SELECTION PROCEDURES

RE: Preliminary Notice to the Athlete Selection Procedures for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games 

To provide as much information in a timely manner, USA-WSWS is releasing this Preliminary Notice to the Athlete Selection Procedures for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games (Games).  This document is being written as a complement, and not a substitute to the Athlete Selection Procedures.  Additional communication will be released by USA-WSWS once the Athlete Selection Procedures have been finalized.    

  1. Anticipated Athlete Eligibility Criteria:

  • Athletes must observe and abide by the Panam Sports Constitution and the regulations established by the Pan American Sport Confederation and International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF).

  • Athletes must be in the U22 category (athletes born in 2004 or after); that is, athletes must not be older than 21 years old in 2025.

  • Athletes must sign the Athlete Eligibility Condition Form.

  • Athletes must be an active member of USA-WSWS, whereas all membership dues must be paid to USA-WSWS at the time of registration for the Evaluation Event (see Section C) and continuing through the Games. 

  • Athletes must be a national of the United States and hold a valid U.S. passport that will not expire for six months after the conclusion of the Games.  

  • Athletes must adhere to all USA-WSWS, USADA, USOPC, WADA and Panam Sports anti-doping protocols, policies, and procedures, as applicable.  

  • Athletes must comply with the current USOPC Background Check Policy.

  • Athletes must remain current with the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s education and training requirements in accordance with the USOPC Athlete Safety Policy.

  1. Qualification System Overview:

  • Based on results achieved at the 2024 IWWF Pan American Wakeboard Championship, USA-WSWS has been allocated one quota per gender (2 in total) in Wakeboard for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games.

  1. Anticipated Evaluation Events:

It is intended that athletes being considered for nomination in Wakeboard to the 2025 Junior Pan American Games will be evaluated on their performance at any of the below listed events.

USA Wakerski and Wake Sports Junior Pan Am Games Wakeboard Trials Event

TBD *Anticipated sometime between March 1 - May 31, 2025.

This preliminary notice will be updated once additional registration information and site location becomes available for the event listed above. The Trials Event will be open to all riders who meet the eligibility criteria specified in Section A of this document. Notice will be posted on the main page of www.usawaterski.org  and  USA Wakeboard

To clarify the selection process for athletes who compete at the Junior Pan Am Games (JPAG) Trials event: The top male and female finishers from the Trials Event will be named as the primary athlete rider representatives, and be offered the quota spot for JPAG. If the designated primary athlete rider representative declines to participate, is unavailable, and/or becomes ineligible, the quota spot will be offered to the next highest ranking athlete in that same gender, based on order of finish at the USA-WSWS JPAG Wakeboard Trials Event.  This process will continue until all available spots are filled (provided replacements are still permitted by the Pan American Sport Confederation).  

  1. Qualification for the 2027 Pan American Games (Lima, Peru):

  • In Water Ski and Wakeboard, all 2025 Junior Pan American Games gold medalists in individual events will obtain direct qualification to the 2027 Pan American Games by name. Five (5) spots per gender (10 in total) will be allocated in these competitions.

  • If an athlete who earned the quota cannot participate in the 2027 Pan American Games, the quota will be lost and may not be transferred.

This preliminary notice is based on the Panam Sports rules and regulations as presently known and understood for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games.  The information in this notice is provided to assist athletes with their training and competition planning and is subject to change upon approval of the USA-WSWS Athlete Selection Procedures for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games.  Once complete, the approved Athlete Selection Procedures will be posted at https://www.usawaterski.org/.
