My first coach, Dave, was the first person who really introduced me to competitive water skiing. I had a lot of aspirations to win a state championship. After I won a state championship, I wanted to win a regional championship. After I won a regional championship, I wanted to win a national championship, and then I wanted to win multiple national championships.
Winning a national championship for the first time was a great confirmation of all of the work I put into training over the years. Seeing that come to fruition against the best trick skiers in the United States was amazing to me. My passion, combined with trying to achieve personal goals, kept me not only in pursuit of those goals but kept me committed to pursuing them on a regular basis. I learned resilience by learning new maneuvers and tricks, which sometimes took years. That taught me that if I set my mind to something and want to be successful at it, it might not be an overnight thing, and it will take a lot of hard work and dedication.
It may take years of sacrifice to get to that goal. That helped me a lot in my career with my small business. If someone does have aspirations to be successful with a certain accolade, one of the biggest pieces of advice would be to seek instruction from somebody whose learned it before.
I am Kevin Jack and #WeAreWaterSki.
